InVEST Workbench 3.20.2 Installation Issue

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with the installation of InVEST Workbench 3.20.2 on Windows 11 and would appreciate any guidance.

The installation appears to complete successfully, and InVEST 3.20.2 Workbench is listed under “Programs and Features” (installed size ~1.33 GB). However, I am unable to launch the application.

When I click the Start Menu shortcut, Windows displays the following error:

“This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action.”

The shortcut created is:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\InVEST 3.20.2 Workbench.lnk

So far, I have:

  • Downloaded and installed InVEST 3.20.2 Workbench.
  • Run the installer as Administrator.
  • Verified that the application appears in Programs and Features.
  • Attempted to launch from the Start Menu shortcut.

At the moment I have not been able to locate the executable file directly.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with version 3.20.2 on Windows 11? Are there any known installation problems or recommended troubleshooting steps?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi @gcosta , thanks for posting about this and welcome to the forums!

This is definitely unexpected behavior. If you right-click on the shortcut and open up the properties pane, there should be a way to see what the target of the shortcut is. Could you confirm that the InVEST executable exists on your C:\ drive at that path where the shortcut is looking?

If the InVEST application does not appear to be located at that path, is it possible that you have an antivirus software running on your computer? Sometimes (rarely) antivirus applications like Norton and McAffee can quarantine the InVEST application and you may need to go into your antivirus software to add it to a whitelist/allowlist.

Please do let us know what you find!
