InVEST Workbench crashes immediately on launch (all versions, including 3.17.2 and older ones) - Windows

Dear Natural Capital Project community,

I’m having trouble getting the InVEST Workbench to run on my Windows computer. Both the latest version (3.17.2 workbench, file: invest_3.17.2_workbench_win32_x64.exe) and several older versions I’ve tried all crash immediately upon launching – the program starts to open but closes right away without any visible error message or window appearing.I’ve already tried the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  • Completely uninstalling, deleting leftover folders (e.g., in Program Files and AppData\Roaming\invest-workbench), and reinstalling as administrator.

  • Installing the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages (both x64 and x86).

  • Temporarily disabling antivirus/software (Windows Defender and any third-party tools).

  • Deleting the AppData configuration folder to reset settings.

The issue persists across multiple versions, so it seems specific to my system setup.Could anyone please share any solutions or suggestions to get the Workbench running properly?

Hi @SingerM , thank you for reporting this issue and thank you for your patience over the holiday season.

If you reinstall the Workbench and try to start it, can you wait until after it crashes and then look in C:\Users\your windows username\AppData\Roaming\invest-workbench\logs to see if you have any logfiles? If you do, please upload them here. Thank you,
