How to prepare data for InVEST simulations

Hi everyone, I’m curious how the data and inputs are prepared to run the simulations through InVEST. The Users Guide only describe scenarios related to LULC. How to treat the data to run scenarios related to shifts for example in average temperature, average rain fall, human population, increase in stocking rates? Thanks for your insights on this! Hi @PriSteier -

As you’re noting, there are a lot of different ways that scenarios can be input into InVEST. LULC scenarios are just the most commonly created, and LULC is the most common input among InVEST models.

Climate scenarios are also commonly used, and we’d typically find (or work with someone to create) climate change model results for precipitation, evapotranspiration, sea level rise, etc maps for each climate change scenario. Of course climate change modeling is non-trivial.

Management changes are also common, which can be shown either in the LULC map, or different values in the biophysical table, such as a reduction in fertilizer use for the load_n and load_p inputs of NDR.

I’ve never worked with population change scenarios, but groups like WorldPop provide future projections in raster format.

Do you have a particular model or use case in mind?
