Hi!

I’ve been trying to use the wind energy model to and I have run into some errors. Right now I’m receiving an error where the software is not creating a shapefile for a reprojected clip vector.

Sharing my log here:

[InVEST-wind\_energy-log-2026-08-12–15\_37\_14.txt](https://community.naturalcapitalalliance.org/uploads/short-url/3mNrJx9ilM5YWJ39fAWGwmJJFm4.txt) (6.4 KB)

AOI and land polygons are custom and bathymetry raster is from GEBCO

Any help or suggestions for fix would be appreciated!

Hi @Jastine,

Welcome to the forum! Thanks very much for reporting this and sharing your logfile. I believe there is a bug in our code (it looks like the `reprojected_clip_vector.shp` is never created if the land polygon vector and the AOI vector inputs have the same projection). Are you able to tell me if your AOI vector and your land polygon vector have the same projection?

Thanks!

Hi!

Thank you so much for replying and Yes! I did have both of them set to WGS84 Web Mercator. What projection would you say would work best for the two vectors? I will also be doing some trials with different projections.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Jastine,

The AOI vector must use a projected coordinate reference system with meters as the unit of measurement. The land polygon vector does not have projection restrictions. In general, I’d recommend picking a projection that minimizes distortion of the local area where you’re modeling. There are also tons of resources online about choosing the right projection for your goals!

I’ve also made an issue about this so we should have a fix in the release following InVEST 3.20.1 which should permit you to use the same projection for both vectors. Thanks again for reporting this!
