# Can I get the step-by-step instructions for preprocessing calculations (RIOS) outside of ArcGIS?

Could I get the step-by-step instructions for calculating preprocessing (RIOS) inputs and outputs outside of ArcGIS (QGIS) in python?

Hello @mateogranados, and welcome!

Wow, I really had to dig back and remind myself whether we actually have those particular instructions, which I saw are mentioned in the RIOS User Guide as being available upon request. [Here’s the document that I found](https://github.com/natcap/rios/blob/master/user_guide/RIOS_preprocessor_step_by_step.docx), which still uses ArcGIS commands for some of the steps, so you’d need to find equivalents for. It also looks like I never finished the document, so there are no instructions for 2 of the services - groundwater recharge and dry season baseflow - which is unfortunate.

Sorry that we don’t support RIOS any more so I can’t help further, other than to say that perhaps you can piece things together using this document plus what’s in the User Guide plus what’s in the ArcGIS python script?
